Install Codira IDE.Five steps. Two minutes.
Codira is a native app for macOS and Windows, built with Tauri. The walkthrough below is the Mac one: a standard drag-to-Applications install of an app that’s signed and notarised by Apple and updates itself. On Windows, run the installer; it installs for your user only, so no admin rights needed.
macOS 11+ (universal — Apple Silicon + Intel) · Windows 10/11 (64-bit)
The Mac app updates itself. On Windows, updates aren't automatic yet; download the new installer to update.
From download to running Codira IDE— on macOS.
- 1
Download Codira.
Click the Download button. On a Mac you get a universal DMG of about 140 MB that runs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. It's signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple.
- 2
Open the DMG.
Double-click the downloaded file. A window opens showing the Codira icon and a shortcut to your Applications folder.
- 3
Drag Codira IDE into Applications.
The standard macOS install pattern. Drag the Codira icon onto the Applications folder shortcut.
- 4
Open Codira from Applications.
Open it from Applications or Spotlight. The first time, macOS asks if you're sure you want to open an app from the internet; click Open. If you open Codira straight from the DMG, it offers to copy itself to Applications and relaunch. Say yes, or updates won't work. If macOS ever says Codira is damaged or from an unidentified developer, delete that copy and download a fresh one.
- 5
You're in.
From now on the Mac app keeps itself up to date. It checks when it opens and every 6 hours; when an update is ready, a banner offers Install or Later. Nothing interrupts your work.
Updates, and installing on Windows.
On Mac versions 1.6.3 to 1.6.6, updates didn’t arrive, so if you’re on one of those, download Codira again once and you’ll get updates from then on. To check by hand, go to Settings → About Codira → Check for updates.
On Windows, run the …_x64-setup.exe installer. It installs for your user only, so you don’t need admin rights. It needs Microsoft’s WebView2 runtime, which Windows 11 and current Windows 10 already have; if it’s missing, the installer downloads it. Windows doesn’t update itself yet, so download the new installer to update.
